A Few Seconds of Fame & My Last Name
I've kept my last name off of this blog to have some small semblance of anonymity,...
But this story is too good not to share.
My friend Chad shot me an email last Sunday, telling me to watch Crossing Jordan that night on NBC.---Chad works for the producers of the show and said that he'd actually written me into the script of that night's episode.
Cool, right?---So, I called/emailed a bunch of my friends and family to watch.
That night, the show starts with a storyline about a guy who sexually abuses young boys,... and I'm thinking, "Oh, please God... Don't make me the child-abuser, don't make me the child-abuser, don't make me the child-abuser..."---I mean, my grandma was watching this thing!
Then, a subplot begins... with a woman's body found in pieces on the freeway, after being hit at high speeds by multiple vehicles. The investigators were able to identify three of the four cars that hit her with paint chips and grill marks left on her body (I know. Gross, right?),... but the identity of one driver still alluded them,... until...
One of the forensics scientists says to another,...
"I've been loading traffic cam footage a few miles out from the scene, minutes after the crash..."
He then shows the footage to his colleague,... who looks at it and says...
"Hey, look at that Astro Van... The hood is smashed!"
Then, the first investigator pauses the footage...
...magnifies the license plate on the vehicle,...
...and runs the plate through the records system.
Then, he says, "The plate tracks to a..." (Below is a pic of my TV screen with Closed Captioning on, so you can read the line yourself. Click on the pic for a larger view.)
That's MY name!
And look closely at the computer screen...
You can even see my name on the monitor! (Obviously, the address is bogus. You knew that, right? I live in West Hollywood.)
Immediately after this scene, a detective interviews each of the drivers in brief snippets interwoven together. My character is only on screen for a total of about 5 seconds. His three lines included...
"Wasn't like I could do anything."
"I was going, like, 70."
"I didn't see her."
From one of the other interviews, it becomes apparent that the victim was dead before anybody hit her,... and so,... my character then disappears.
The actor playing "the character with my name" looks nothing like me, but I have no problem with that. I'm just glad they didn't give the part to someone who looks like Bruce Vilanch (who IS talented, but... come on... would YOU want him to play you on TV? I didn't think so.).
So, there you have it. I'm not even IN the entertainment industry, and my name has now been spoken on national network television.
Oh, and don't worry... I won't let this overwhelming fame go to my head.---However, I can't help but think (as I'm sure most everyone in America is thinking)... Who IS this "Jason" character that I just saw for 5 seconds on Crossing Jordan? What is his life LIKE? His character just seems so REAL and DEEP...
I should contact the show's producers. I definitely see "spin-off" potential.
Think about it.
Instead of "Crossing Jordan,"... we could have...
"Circling Jason"
*heheh*
peace,
Me
